“Whatever good is done for good men is never done in vain” – Plautus

We are glad to be able to tell you about another successful mission at Sitagu Ayudana Hospital, Myanmar. As we did last year, we met children who suffer from malformation or the consequences of injuries. The team, guided by the founding members Dr. Berkei and Dr. Sarkar performed 57 surgeries, mainly on children with a cleft lip and palate. This year, the people in Myanmar had it even worse because of floodings and a higher incidence of infectious diseases like dengue. On September 12. we arrived at the hospital, despite being the 7th visit, it is always a very special feeling and we are still so glad to be able to give the patients back their smile.

Everyday starts with a morning visiting to see if every patient is doing well and there are no complications. After that, we immediately start the surgical treatments again. A regular surgery takes 2-3 hours, this time the longest one took us 8 hours to complete. It was a case of severe scarring on the neck and arms, where the specialists had to remove the damaged skin and graft healthy parts of skin to the affected area.

When all the surgeries for this day were done, the doctors examined 30 further children and evaluated if they were for surgery the next day. We are so grateful for the never ending support of the local medical staff since our first mission in Myanmar.

Our project is only viable because of the huge support of our donors, sponsors and friends, who never cease to amaze us. Five days of surgical treatment means five days of hard work but we are always happy to pave the way to a better life for these children. Of course, we are already looking forward to our next mission in 2016!

Be part of it!
