The Founding of the Medical Intervention Team

The Founding of the Medical Intervention Team

In 2008, the tropical storm ‚Nagis‘ caused great harm to many victims in Myanmar. Because of a block by the military government in Myanmar, international organizations who came to support, had trouble reaching the suffering population. This circumstance made a group of doctors take action. Still in 2008, they went on a trip to Myanmar, to find out what kind of medical supplies are needed. Due to the eligible technical preconditions in the ‚Ayudana Hospital‘ in Sagaing Hills, the project settled there. The monks who worked at the hospital, provided a safe and reliable environment for the doctors to accomplish the treatment of the patients and ensured the necessary aftercare. Especially children with a congenital malformation (for example cleft lip and palate) or those who suffer from skin injuries caused by burns are in need of medical care.

The first Mission took place in 2009. The association ‚Medical Intervention Team e.V.‘ was officially founded on the 28.05.2009, to facilitate the organizational actions. It is registered at the local court in Frankfurt am Main and confirmed as charitable by the tax office of Frankfurt am Main, because it’s funded by donation.
